Bartok : Concerto for Orchestra
Mussorgsky : Pictures at an Exhibition
Featuring
Carolyn Kuan, Conductor
It’s a season of celebration! We kick off our 75th anniversary with Mussorgsky’s evocative showpiece Pictures at an Exhibition, inspired by his walk through an exhibit of watercolors and drawings by a close friend. Bartók’s virtuosic Concerto for Orchestra moves from darkness to light, in the work that established the composer as a master of his craft. Experience the virtuosity and power of HSO musicians at their finest!
The New Britain Museum of American Art has curated an exhibit that provides a modern interpretation of the visual art that inspired Modest Mussorgsky’s landmark work Pictures at an Exhibition. Images of the artwork from this exhibit will be projected at the live performances of Pictures at an Exhibition during the HSO’s opening weekend concerts October 5-7.
